Talk about a full-circle moment! As we write this, our sweet newlyweds Laurren and Shelden are currently out on the open ocean celebrating their honeymoon on a cruise. But the timing gets even better—June 1st marks the exact one-year anniversary of the day Shelden dropped to one knee on a different cruise ship to ask Laurren to spend forever with him. Talk about the ultimate way to celebrate!
Here at A Simple Affair, we get to see a lot of love stories, but there’s something so special about a couple who just knows from day one. Laurren and Shelden’s morning wedding was the perfect reflection of their journey—intentional, full of faith, deeply connected to family, and completely true to who they are.

An Unstoppable Match
It all started with a simple swipe on a Christian dating app. Shelden made the first move by swiping right, and even though it took Laurren a little while to see the match and swipe back, they’ve been inseparable ever since.
For their very first date, they headed out to Town Square for a fun night of arcade games followed by dinner at Sickies Garage. By the time the night wrapped up, the connection was so instant that both Laurren and Shelden went home knowing they had just met their future spouse. A second date followed exactly one week later, and the rest was history!
When it came time for the proposal, Laurren had a tiny inkling it was coming (especially after a fun ring-shopping date a few weeks prior!). On June 1st, 2025, during their first cruise together, they stumbled upon a quiet, adults-only deck right before dinner. Surrounded by the ocean, Shelden asked the big question, and Laurren gave an easy yes.
When you ask them what they love most about each other, they'll tell you it’s how completely comfortable they feel. From their very first chat, it felt like they had known each other for years, and being 100% themselves is the foundation of everything they do.
Finding the Perfect Vibe
When it came time to plan the big day, the couple wanted a vibe that was simple, elegant, and modern, opting for a clean and sophisticated color palette of dark blue, dusty blue, and crisp white.
Hunting for a Las Vegas venue that could host their guest list without breaking the bank can be a challenge, but when they walked into A Simple Affair, everything just clicked.
"It was the one venue that didn’t charge an arm and a leg for the amount of guests we wanted," Laurren shared. "The vibe and feeling when I walked in was so welcoming. It felt like a place that truly cared about every little detail that I wanted—from the candles on the tables to the color of the napkins."

A Morning to Remember & A Special Tribute
The couple officially tied the knot with a beautiful, faith-centered morning ceremony at their home church, North Community Church. The church family completely went above and beyond, coming together to decorate the space beautifully for the morning "I dos."
Because it was an early celebration, Laurren had one absolute must-have for the reception: amazing appetizers so their favorite people wouldn't stay hungry!
For the main meal, they brought in a legendary local favorite: BBQ from John Mull's Meats / Roadkill Grill. While the food was an absolute home run for the tastebuds, it held a much deeper emotional meaning for the family. Shelden lost his dad a few years ago, and Roadkill Grill was his dad's absolute favorite BBQ spot in town. Having them cater the reception was a beautiful, unintentional tribute to his memory that brought a piece of his spirit into the celebration.
Needless to say, the food was the undisputed hit of the party. Everyone in attendance raved about the spread, and the newlyweds completely agreed—it was incredibly good!

Words of Wisdom
For Laurren, the absolute best part of the day was simply pausing to take it all in—celebrating the immense love she and Shelden share while being completely surrounded by their best support system of family and friends.
When asked what advice she'd pass along to other couples currently planning a wedding in town, Laurren keeps it real with classic local wisdom: "It’s Vegas, go big or go home!"
We are so incredibly grateful to have played a part in this beautiful day, and the feeling is entirely mutual. "A Simple Affair’s team was AMAZING to work with," Laurren said. "From Maddy helping us plan the event date, incorporating our budget, table layouts, and decorations—she was phenomenal and made it super easy. The whole team was just amazing and I’m truly grateful."
Huge congratulations to Laurren and Shelden! We wish you a lifetime of cruise adventures, arcade dates, and endless love.
